SC Orders Govt To Provide Information On State's Anti-Hate Speech Laws

Supreme Court directed the Centre on July 21 to provide it with information on the preventative, corrective, and remedial actions taken by state governments thus far in accordance with its previous hate speech judgments within six weeks. A bench of Justices directed the Secretary of the Ministry of Home Affairs to collect the material into a pamphlet. SC was considering appeals against claimed hate speech directed at a certain population.

SC Permits Centre to Retain Mukesh Ambani's Family's Security Cover In Mumbai

Supreme Court granted the Centre permission to continue providing protection to businessman Mukesh Ambani and his family in Mumbai on July 22. A bench accepted the Central Government's appeal against the Tripura High Court's decision on a PIL. Solicitor General Tushar Mehta, representing the Centre, stated that the PIL petitioner (Bikash Saha) in Tripura had nothing to do with Ambani's protection in Mumbai.

Supreme Court Rejects Petition To Accept Private Tour Operators For Hajj In 2022

Supreme Court (SC) denied Al Islam Tour Corporations' request to be included as private tour operators for the Hajj in 2022 on May 23. The petitioner attempted to withdraw his plea and petitioned the relevant High Court. SC gave the petitioner the right to seek any alternative legal action. SC stated that previous petitions had been denied and that the petitioners should have arrived one month earlier.

SC Announce Judgement In Loud Speakers Row, Asks To Obey Orders

In Gayathri Peetha Mutt's organized program, Karnataka CM Basavaraj Bommai announced to obey SC orders in Loudspeaker Row. Notably, on May 10, the Supreme Court issued an order on the use of loudspeakers in public places, asking governments to obey it.  In regard to this, CM Bommai said action will be taken to implement it in a cordial manner. Everybody should obey the order, all the issues will be resolved.

Justice Sudhanshu Dhulia, Justice J.B. Pardiwala Take Oath As SC Judges

Chief Justice of India NV Ramana administrated the oath of office to the judges in a swearing-in ceremony held in the auditorium of the Supreme Court's additional building complex, on May 9. Gauhati High Court Chief Justice Sudhanshu Dhulia, and Gujrat High Court judge Justice Jamshed Burjor Pardiwala took oath at 10 am. After appointing new judges the apex court will function at its full length of 34.

SC To Decide If Larger Bench Should Take Up Pleas Against Sedition Law

The Supreme would soon decide if a larger bench needs to hear the challenges against Section 124A of the Indian Penal Code. A bench comprising CJI NV Ramana, Justice Hima Kohli and Justice Surya Kant has posted the matter on 10th May. The bench stated that the matter would not be adjourned. The Attorney General of India asserted that there is a need to check the misuse of the law.

SC Rejects Plea Seeking Probe Into Ram Navami, Hanuman Jayanti Violence

The apex court has rejected a plea which demanded an inquiry into the Ram Navami and Hanuman Jayanti violence. The Justice Nageswara Rao-led bench told the lawyer to not expect any relief, and that the court would not grant, saying, "You want an inquiry to be headed by (a) former Chief Justice of India?... Dismissed." The petitioner had prayed for a committee to probe into the clashes.

SC Approaches For Probe Into Jahangirpuri Violence In Delhi

A letter petition has been filed in the Apex Court, requesting a fair and unbiased probe into the violence that had broken out in Delhi's Jahangirpuri on the occasion of Hanuman Jayanti. Stone-pelting was also reported during the Hanuman Jayanti procession in the north-western area of Delhi., which left many injured critically. This marked the first such clash between two groups in the national capital since 2020 riot.

SC Asks Haryana, UP To Pass Over Minor's Death Case Files To CBI

SC bench comprising Justice CT Ravikumar and Justice Ajay Rastogi has told the Haryana and Uttar Pradesh governments to hand over the case files pertaining to the death of a minor to the CBI. The apex court gave the direction while hearing a plea filed by the victim's mother against a High Court order. The Punjab and Haryana HC had earlier rejected her plea for transfer of case.
