SC Reserves Order In Jammu & Kashmir Challenging Abrogation Of Article 370
Supreme Court on September 5, reserved its judgement on a batch of petitions filed in a long-pending case challenging the Centre's decision to abrogate Article 370 of the Constitution that gave a special status to the erstwhile state of Jammu and Kashmir. The petitioners also challenged the J&K Re-organisation Act which was utilised to bifurcate the state into two Union territories.

Children Born Out Of Void Marriages Entitled To Parents' Property: Supreme Court
The Supreme Court ruled that children born out of void or voidable marriages are entitled to get a share in the property of their parents. The ruling is applicable only to Hindu joint family properties governed by Hindu Mitakshara Law, the top court clarified. The verdict was given by a three-judge bench led by CJI DY Chandrachud in reference to a two-judge bench judgment in Revanasiddappa vs. Mallikarjun (2011)

SC Extends Interim Bail To AAP Leader Satyendra Jain

Jammu & Kashmir Article 370 Issue; SG Tushar Says Statement Of Govt On August 31, Seeks Time
During theSupreme Court hearing, Solicitor General Tushar Mehta, representing the Centre, told the court that the move to bifurcate Jammu and Kashmir into the UTs of Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh was a "temporary measure". He said while Jammu and Kashmir would be reverted as a state in the future, Ladakh would remain a union territory. Furthermore, the Indian Government would give a statement on August 31.

SC Court Slams Lower Court For Going Against Their Orders In Rape Survivor Issue
Going against the Supreme Court, the Gujarat High Court, refuted relief for a rape survivor, seeking termination of her pregnancy. The move drew backlash from the Apex Court, which came down heavily on the Gujarat HC and said, "What is happening in Gujarat High Court? No court in India can pass an order against a superior court order. It is against constitutional philosophy," said SC, which listed the matter.

SC To Decide On Panel Functioning To Oversee Manipur Violence On August 25
A panel headed by former judge Gital Mittal to oversee relief and rehabilitation of victims of violence in Manipur submitted three reports to the Supreme Court, including one on the need to upgrade the compensation scheme for the strife-torn people of the state. CBI Can't Challenge Bail Grant, Says Lalu Prasad Yadav In SC
The Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) Chief and former Bihar CM Lalu Prasad Yadav said CBI can't challenge bail orders just because they are not satisfied. In the court hearing, the RJD leader submitted his reply before the Supreme Court, "Jharkhand High Court's order on suspending his sentence cannot be challenged solely on the ground that the CBI is dissatisfied." CBI sought bail cancellation in Fodder Scam Case against Lalu.
