Smart City Awards 2020: UP Tops List Followed By MP & TN

In the list of Smart City awards 2020 released on June 25, two cities Indore (MP) and Surat (Gujarat) have bagged the first prize for their overall development. Whereas Chandigarh topped among the union territories. The smart city awards are given considering the development of social aspects, governance, economy, culture, urban environment and mobility, water, sanitation, etc. Besides, UP, MP and Tamil Nadu topped among all states.

Gujarat: 6 Die, 50 Under Treatment After Drinking Contaminated Water

The consumption of contaminated water has left six dead and nearly 50 hospitalised in Surat district of Gujarat. The incident took place on May 30 and 31 in Kathor village where the residents suffered vomiting and diarrhoea after drinking the water. Consequently, they were admitted to government and private hospitals for treatment. Meanwhile, the locals have accused the authorities of failing to provide basic amenities to the residents.

Gujarat BJP Head Stirs Row After Dispensing COVID Drug Remdesivir For Free

Gujarat BJP chief CR Paatil has drawn all the heat after he allegedly distributed 5,000 doses of key COVID-19 drug Remdesivir for free in Surat (his hometown). Reportedly, the medicine is under severe shortage and can be sold only under prescription. Paatil's move has even stirred political controversy as Congress leaders have demanded strict actions from Governor Acharya Devvrat against the alleged illegal procurement of the drug.

Surat Court Acquits 122 People Accused As Terror Outfit SIMI Members

Around 122 people, who were accused of being members of the banned outfit 'Student's Islamic Movement of India' (SIMI), were acquitted by a Surat court on March 6. Jeweller Sets World Record For Designing Ring With 12,638 Diamonds

A 25-year-old jeweller Harshit Bansal has been featured in the Guinness World Records for embedding a ring with 12,638 tiny diamonds. A floral-shaped ring - 'The Marigold - The Ring of Prosperity,' - weighs about 165 grams. The eight-layered flower-shaped ring had its petal intricately designed. Harshit said that the idea struck him while studying jewellery designing in Surat. Moreover, he stated he has no intentions to sell it.

Gujarat: 36 Bodies Donated In 10 Years For Medical Studies By Surat Family

The Savani Family in Surat has donated 36 bodies in the past 10 years to various medical colleges. Reportedly, the family had taken an oath, according to which the body of any member who dies will be donated for medical students. Interestingly, this oath has also turned into a campaign in Surat, encouraging body donations for medical colleges. Medical colleges with over 250 students need around 30-35 bodies every year.
