French Author Annie Ernaux Receives Nobel Prize 2022 For Literature
Eighty-Two-Years-Old French author Annie Ernaux won the Nobel Prize 2022 for the Literature field. The award was announced on October 6, by Swedish Academy in Stockholm in Sweden, for her "uncompromising and written in plain language, scraped clean". Ernaux debuted her writing career in 1970 with Les armoires vides (Cleaned Out 1990). Some of her famous books include A Woman's Story, A Man's Place, and Simple Passion.

Swedish MP Abir-Al-Sahlani cut her hair in support of the ongoing wide-spread anti-hijab protests. By doing so, she called for EU action against Iran. She said, “until Iran is free our fury will be bigger than our oppressors. Until you, the women of Iran are free, we are going to stand with you”. Two Injured In Sweden Shopping Centre Shooting
In Sweden’s southern city of Malmo, a shooting occurred at the Emporia shopping centre, injuring two persons on August 19. Following the incident, the police have cordoned off the area, and have requested people from not visiting the shopping centre. Sweden Announces To 'Formally' Join NATO
Sweden's Social Democrat minority government said on May 16 that it will apply for NATO membership, following the path of Finland. Sweden's parliament passed NATO membership with a large majority. "The best thing for Sweden and the Swedish population is to join NATO," Prime Minister Magdalena Andersson said during a discussion on security policy in parliament.

Finland Expected To Announce Bid To Join NATO; Sweden Likely To Follow
As Russia's invasion of Ukraine reshapes European security and the Atlantic military alliance, Finland is set to declare its decision to join NATO on May 12. Sweden is expected to follow suit. Russia claims that NATO expansion poses a direct danger to its national security. President Sauli Niinisto stated that if Finland provokes Russia by joining NATO, Putin would be held responsible.

New Virtual Museum To Honour Late DJ Avicii In Sweden
A museum in memory of the late electronic dance DJ Avicii commenced on February 26, in his birthplace Stockholm to render a peek into his life and artistic work. In addition, the virtual museum, "Avicii Experience'' will allow visitors to see his pictures, videos and listen to the unreleased music of the artist. Notably, Avicii, whose real name was Tim Bergling, was found dead in Oman in April 2018.

Swedish Company Trains Crows To Pick Cigarette Butts From Streets
Swedish firm named Corvid Cleaning, is training crows to pick up cigarette butts from the streets. “They are easier to teach and there is a higher chance of them learning from each other,'' quoted the founder. New Caledonian crows, that possess the intelligence of a seven-year-old human child, are used for the job. Notably, The firm is carrying out several tests before rolling out the operation across the city.

Spotify Plans To Replace 'Car View' Feature With New Version
Spotify, a Sweden-based music streaming platform, confirmed that they have planned to retire its "Car View" feature. The feature was first added to the application in 2019. It makes the application hassle-free and easy to control while driving. However, the company assured that they will soon launch a better feature, replacing the "Car View" mode, reported ANI. Spotify also adviced their customers to use Google Assistant till the launch.
