Hyderabad Man Creates Record, Orders Idlis Worth Rs 6 Lakhs In A Year

A Hyderabad man, who seems like a fan of idlis created a record after he spent Rs 6 lakhs on ordering idlis in one year. In a survey of March 2022-2023, the food delivery platform Swiggy revealed that a user ordered 8,428 plates of idlis alone. Furthermore, on World Idli Day, Swiggy also shared an analysis, that Swiggy delivered 33 million idli plates in one year in Indian states.

Swiggy, Zomato Suffers Nationwide Outage; Social Media Flooded With Complaints

Zomato and Swiggy, India's two largest food delivery apps, suffered a nationwide outage, on April 6. The 30-min outage was reportedly caused by an Amazon Web Services snag, that several online platforms rely on. Social media was flooded with complaints from customers, stating that the apps are not functioning. Delivery partners also raised complaints saying that food was not able to be delivered due to the outage.

Swiggy Sets New Record, Receives 9,500 Orders Per Minute

Online food delivery platform Swiggy thanked its customers after it received 9,500 orders per minute, breaking the last record of 5,500 food orders per minute. The company made the record on new year's eve, on December 31. ''OPM reaches most 9,500 level by early dinner itself, which is almost 1.7x of last year's peak,'' said Swiggy. Reportedly, it shaw the jump of 80% in the number of new users.

Bengali Actor Trolled For Tagging PM Modi In Complaints About Swiggy

Bengali actor Prosenjit Chatterjee turned to Twitter to publicly express his worries regarding food delivery applications on November 6. Swiggy Grants 2-Day Paid 'Period' Leave To Female Delivery Agents

Swiggy announced that it will provide a two-day paid monthly period leave to its regular female delivery agents, on October 20. The delivery agents can take the said leaves voluntarily in the month. This decision was made to ensure comfort to the female delivery partners. Notably, more than 99% of the females working in the firm are below 45 years of age, and almost 89% of them have a child.

Swiggy, Zomato To Charge GST On Food Deliveries: GST Council

The GST Council has decided that starting from 1st January 2022, Online Food Delivery Businesses like Swiggy and Zomato are required to collect 5% GST from their customers. This transition is meant to simplify the tax administration. Revenue secretary Tarun Bajaj explained, "There is neither a new tax nor extra tax, the tax earlier payable by restaurants, now will be payable by aggregators to prevent revenue leakage."
