SC Prohibits Commercial Activities Within 500 Metres Of Taj Mahal

In a landmark judgement, the Supreme Court of India has directed the Agra Development Authority to immediately stop all the commercial activities within 500 metres radius of the Taj Mahal. Reportedly, the 500 metre radius is a “no construction zone”, and vehicular movements are also strictly regulated. Moreover, burning of wood, municipal solid waste and agricultural waste are also prohibited in the said area.

Allahabad HC Rejects Plea To Probe 22 Closed Doors Of Taj Mahal

Allahabad HC rejected a plea filed by Rajneesh Singh, a BJP youth media-in charge, regarding 22 closed doors of the Taj Mahal. On May 12, the HC bench reviewed the petition, seeking to open the doors, and asked for an archeological survey of the doors claiming the presence of Hindu idols. The petitioner also asked for a fact-finding committee to probe the closed doors. However, the court rejected the plea.

Taj Mahal's Land Belonged To Jaipur's Hindu Royal Family, Claims BJP MP Diya Kumari

BJP MP Diya Kumari claimed that Shah Jahan captured a Hindu palace to build Taj Mahal. On May 11, Kumari said, the land in which Taj Mahal is built, belonged to a royal family from Jaipur. She further stated that they have documents in support of the claim, and are ready to furnish before any court, if necessary. "Shah Jahan liked it (the land) so he acquired it," said Kumari.

Plea In Allahabad HC Demands Probe To Ascertain Presence Of Hindu Idols In Taj Mahal

A plea has been filed in the Lucknow bench of the Allahabad High court, demanding a probe to ascertain the presence of Hindu idols inside the Taj Mahal. The petition especially calls for directions to the Archeological Survey of India to probe into the twenty-two closed doors inside the monument, to search for Hindu idols. The plea also relies on claims that Taj Mahal is a Shiv Temple.

Taj Mahotsav 2022 a 10-day cultural festival is all set to be held from March 20 to March 29 in Agra. A 16-feet tall snow sculpture at the Taj Mahal created by the Grand Mumtaz Resorts have become the main attraction for tourists in Jammu and Kashmir's Gulmarg. The replica was built within 17 days with a four-member team which is witnessing a huge crowd. "We wanted to make it memorable for people," said Hotel's General Manager, Satyajeet Gopal. "This Taj Mahal is very beautiful," said a tourist.

Manual Ticket Counters Of Taj Mahal, Agra Fort Closed: Covid-19

The manual ticket counters of the Taj Mahal and Agra Fort have been closed in Uttar Pradesh's Agra on January 3. ''However, the monuments are not completely closed," said Dr. Raj Kumar Patel, Superintending Archeologist. The decision was taken in view of the rising number of COVID-19 cases in the state. Meanwhile, the UP reported 514 new cases of COVID-19 in the past 24 hours, reported ANI.

Night Viewing Of Taj Mahal Set To Open For Public

The tourism department of Agra has decided to open the Taj Mahal for viewing during the night under moonlight from August 21, following over one year. However, only 50 tourists will be allowed in each slot starting from 8:30 to 9, 9-9:30, and 9:30-10 pm. The monument will only open for five days, however, will be shut on Friday.

ASI To Utilise Closure Period Of Agra Monuments For Conservation

To properly utilise the lockdown period, the Archaeological Survey of India has decided to carry out a conservation drill for the historical monuments in Agra during the period. Reportedly, under the drill, monuments like Taj Mahal, Agra Fort and Fatehpur Sikri will undergo conservation work while adhering to the COVID-19 protocols. Notably, the budget passed for the renovation and conservation of the monuments is Rs 1 crore.
