Tamil Nadu Govt Announces Sep 11 As Mahakavi Day

The Tamil Nadu Government led by MK Stalin, announced to celebrate Mahakavi Day, on September 11. The death anniversary of nationalist poet and freedom fighter Subramania Bharati, which falls on September 11, will be observed as Mahakavi Day, said Tamil Nadu Government on September 10. State ministers would pay floral tributes to a statue of the firebrand poet here on Sunday.

TN Govt Issues Notices To Schools For Shutting Amid Kallakurichi Student Suicide Case

Tamil Nadu Government issued notices to 987 private schools for shutting down, amid the Kallakurichi student suicide case. In the issued notice, dated July 19, they sought an explanation behind the shut down of schools against the government's order, which said it will take strict action if any school closes in connection with the death of a 17-year-old student. Notably, on July 18, a student of Kallakurichi school committed suicide.

Madras HC Upholds 7.5% Quota For Govt School Students In Medical Colleges: TN

The Madras high court, on April 7, upheld the 7.5% reservation provided by the Tamil Nadu government for students from government schools in admission to medical courses. ''It was to help deserving students from the underprivileged and marginalised sections of the society get admission to medical colleges,'' stated the state government. Notably, Only 31% of the seats in medical colleges were earlier reserved for general category students.

Tamil Nadu CM MK Stalin launched a unique scheme for the citizens of the state. On March 21, MK Stalin said, "People who help those involved in a road accident and take them to a medical care facility within the golden hour period will be rewarded with a certificate of appreciation and a Rs 5,000 cash reward". This is similar to the previous scheme, providing free-medical treatment to road-accident victims.
