Congress Leaders Pay Tribute To Rajiv Gandhi, Ahead Of Bharat Jodo Yatra

Rahul Gandhi and senior Congress leaders paid floral tribute to former PM of India the late Rajiv Gandhi, on September 7. The tribute was in the view of beginning of "Bharat Jodo Yatra' from Tamil Nadu. The hyped campaign of the Indian National Congress will begin from Kanyakumari, covering 3,500 kilometres in nearly 150 days. The rally will begin at 5 pm, with a mega rally, eyeing 2024 General elections.

Justice M Duraiswamy Appointed As Acting CJ Of Madrash HC

Justice M Duraiswamy, senior-most judge of the Madras High Court has been appointed its acting chief justice, said the law ministry on September 5. He will assume charge with effect from September 13, after incumbent chief justice Munishwar Nath Bhandari demits office on the evening of September 12, after attaining retired age of 62. While Supreme Court judges retire at 65, HC judges retire at the age of 62 years.

CM MK Stalin Expresses Stance Against NEP, Calls It ‘Stumbling Block’: Tamil Nadu

Tamil Nadu CM MK Stalin on August 30, said that the government apart from opposing National Education Entrance Test (NEET), is also against the National Education Policy (NEP). He stated that the NEP “is not a stepping stone, but a stumbling block”. He further stated, “we are resisting because we are a society which fought for the right to education”. The CM also intends on framing a State Education Policy.

Kallakurichi Student Death: Madras HC Says Case Of Suicide, Not Rape Or Murder

The High Court of Madras held that the case of student death in Kallakurichi, is a case of suicide, and not rape or sexual harassment. A 17-year-old girl student died by way of suicide in Kallakurichi on July 13, after which a widespread agitation broke out. Her parents alleged that she was raped or sexually harassed. However, the court observed that through a report, she wasn’t sexually abused.

Van Collides With Private Omni Bus In Tamil Nadu’s Salem; 6 Dead, 5 Injured

In Tamil Nadu’s Salem district, a van collided with an omni bus on August 23. The collision caused the deaths of six persons, and left five others injured. Reportedly, the van which was going on a flyover collided head on with a private omni bus coming from the opposite direction. The injured persons have been admitted to Salem Government Mohan Kumaramangalam Medical college hospital.

A fire massive in size, broke out at an oil factory in Tamil Nadu’s Chennai, during the early hours on August 18. Tamil Nadu police have arrested a man for allegedly hurling footwear at state's finance minister Palanivel Thiagarajan's car. The incident occurred when the minister was returning after paying homage to a slain Indian Army soldier hailing for the district.
