Mumbai Reports 'Zero Death'; COVID Recovery Rate At 98.10%

India recorded more than 14,000 fresh cases in the last 24 hours. However, for the first time since March 26, 2020, Mumbai recorded zero death due to Coronavirus. The average recovery rate stands at 98.10%, while 59.09 crore tests have been done so far. Furthermore, Gujarat also reported zero deaths, for the ninth day in a row. Kerala and Tamil Nadu reported 7,555 and 1,218 cases respectively.

Tamil Nadu Govt Extends Lockdown By Another Week Till May 31

Tamil Nadu CM MK Stalin on May 22 announced the extension of complete lockdown by one more week. Following the steep increase in the COVID-19 death rate, the government extended the lockdown ending on May 24. However, the new guideline will allow shops to open till 9 pm on May 23 to stock up essentials. Allowing banks, private offices, the new order mandated e-registration for inter-state medical travel.

TN Govt Seals ‘Bigg Boss’ Malayalam Set For Flouting COVID-19 Norms

A team led by Thiruvallur Revenue Divisional Officer Preethi Parkavi on May 19 sealed the Chennai's EVP Film City and fined Rs 1 lakh for flouting COVID-19 protocols. The film city was accused of shooting the reality show ‘Bigg Boss’ Malayalam season 3, despite Tamil Nadu government’s ban on film and television shootings amid lockdown. As per sources, the show has completed 95 days with five more days remaining.

Schools And Colleges To Remain Shut: Tamil Nadu Government

After opinions from parents, the Tamil Nadu government has withdrawn the earlier announcements and has postponed the opening of colleges and schools for Classes 9 to 12. Earlier, the government had announced the re-opening of higher educational institutions from November 16. However, from December 2, colleges will re-open for PhD students and final year PG students from science and technical streams as per the UGC guidelines.

Tamil Nadu: Fake IAS Officer Duped Health Official Arrested in Madurai

Madurai police have arrested an individual on November 10, who posed as an IAS officer to an official from the Food Safety Department. The accused Senthil Kumar tried to cheat Somasundaram who was dubious after he was asked to arrange accommodation and liquor during his visit to Madurai. Somasundaram informed the police after confirming the suspicions. The accused was booked under IPC Sections 170 and 420.
