Vodafone-Idea Faces Decline In User Base For October; Jio Tops List

While Bharti Airtel and Reliance Jio have added millions of subscribers to their networks in October, Vodafone-Idea Ltd has lost around 2.7 million customers. According to the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI), Airtel and Jio have got 2.2 million and 3.7 million new users. Besides, their user base stands at 406 million and 330 million respectively. However, the user base of the Vodafone-Idea remains at 293 million.

BSNL To Give Free Sim Cards As Promotional Offer

State-owned telecom operator BSNL has announced to provide free sim cards to customers who wish to join the network. According to reports, the offer will be available only from November 14 till November 28. However, the promotional offer will be applicable under terms and conditions. As per the condition, the customer should make a First Recharge of minimum Rs 100. The offer can be availed at any BSNL retail outlets.

Vodafone-Idea Now Rebranded as 'Vi'

Vodafone–Idea Limited (VIL) on September 7, re-branded themselves as "Vi" (pronounced as 'We') as a part of their merger exercise. The unified re-branding aims at connecting millions of people digitally across the country. Kumar Mangalam Birla, Chairman of VIL said, "With Vi, we stand together for accelerating India’s progression for the digital economy". Earlier in 2018, Vodafone and Idea merged as a single entity to compete with Jio.

BSNL Might Face Manpower Deficit; Lays Off 20,000 Contract Employees

According to a statement by the BSNL Employees' Union, the units have been directed to reduce costs on contracts and this could lead to the eviction of over 20,000 employees. The Union stated that 30,000 contract employees had already been removed. Earlier, through the VRS-2019 plan, 79,000 employees had retired and the union claims that the removal of the contract employees could worsen the situation and lead to a manpower deficit.

Priority Plan Notice: TRAI Extends Deadline for Vodafone-Idea to Reply

The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) extended the deadline to September 8 for Vodafone-Idea Limited (VIL) to respond to notice regarding it's priority plans.
