Cabinet Approves Model Tenancy Act To Overhaul Rental Housing

The Union Cabinet has approved the Model Tenancy Act, 2021 that aims to modify the legal framework of rental housing across India. Consisting 47 sections and two schedules, the act focuses upon securing the "interests and rights of both the landlord and tenant" by making tenancy agreement compulsory. The government, through this act, eyes to move towards fulfillment of PM Narendra Modi's vision of 'Housing for All' by 2022.

Karnataka Couple Booked For Cheating 39 Tenants in Bengaluru

Manohar and Sheetal, a couple in Bengaluru were booked over cheating 39 people in the name of property lease. The couple pretended to be a property manager and rented home. Reportedly, they had managed to loot an amount of around 36 lakhs and absconded since October. According to the police, they have managed to arrest one of their ally, Ranjan and have been booked under IPC 406 and 420.
