WTA Cancels Tennis Events In China Due To Security Risk
Owing to the concern of the safety of players and well-being of China's Peng Shuai, the Women's Tennis Association (WTA) on December 1, said that it has decided to suspend all tournaments in China in 2022. Reportedly, Peng ''isn't allowed to communicate freely'' after she alleged that China's former Vice-Premier Zhang Gaoli sexually assaulted her in early November. The decision of the WTA was also backed by leading tennis figures.
