Continuing her glory, Nikhat Zareen entered the semifinals of the Boxing World Championships, after defeating Raksat Chutamat of Thailand in the 50 kg category. With this, India is hoping a third gold medal in the Boxing World Championship. Earlier,Commonwealth Games champion Nitu Ghanghas (48 kg) and the seasoned Saweety Boora (81 kg) assured India of two medals after reaching the semifinals.

Thailand PM Prayuth Chan-Ocha has ordered a drug crackdown in the country, and has made drug suppression a national agenda item. The police will now actively crackdown offenders by conducting searches and arrests, and will bring users for rehabilitation. The orders have come following the mass killing at a daycare centre in Nong Bua Lamphu province that left 36 people dead.

Thailand Floods: 10,000 Households Affected, 5,000 People Move To Shelters

The flood situation in Thailand continues to stay grim, with heavy rainfall of about 22 cms (8.5 inches) recorded in the northeastern province of Ubon Ratchathani. In the last 24, hours, one person was reportedly killed and two others were injured by falling trees in Sisaket province. Waters have gone up to waist-level in some area of Thailand. Over 5,000 people have moved to shelters seeking protection, abandoning their homes.

Rajapaksa’s lawyer stated that the application for green card has been submitted on the grounds that ex president’s wife Loma is a green card holder. Meanwhile, Rajapaksa who is stationed in Thailand, will reportedly return to Sri Lanka on August 25.

Thailand has allowed for the temporary stay of Ousted Sri Lankan President Gotabaya Rajapaksa. Rajapaksa who fled the island nation after people outran his residence and demanded for his resignation, has seeked refuge in Thailand, after his stay in Singapore comes to an end. Thailand PM Prayut Chan-o-cha has allowed Rajapaksa's stay since it is a "humanitarian issue", and stated that he can stay till he finds a permanent refuge.

Massive Fire Breaks Out At Mountain B Nightclub In Thailand; 13 Dead, 40 Injured

In Thailand's eastern province of Chonburi, a massive fire broke out at a nightclub. The incident took place in Sattahip district's Mountain B night club, and left at least 13 dead. The incident also left as many as 40 injured. Reportedly, in a footage circulated on the internet, people were seen running around screaming, as they were engulfed in fire. Furthermore, no foreign citizens tell victim to the incident.

Thailand decriminalized marijuana growing and possession on June 9. Thailand is Asia's first country to legalize marijuana. Uruguay and Canada are the only nations that have legalized recreational marijuana on a national level so far. The government stated that it is solely pushing cannabis for medical purposes, warning people who want to smoke for pleasure can face a three-month prison sentence and a fine of 25,000 Thai baht.
