Bhavani Devi Becomes India's First Fencer To Qualify For Tokyo Games

After the Budapest Sabre World Cup, India's Bhavani Devi is now India's first fencer to qualify for Tokyo Games due to the Adjusted Official Ranking method. After Hungary's defeat in the quarter-finals and Korea's accession to the semis, two openings were available for the Asia and Oceania region considering the world rankings counted up to April 5, 2021. Relatedly, the 27-year-old Tamil Nadu fencer rated 45th clinched one of the spots.

Vinesh Phogat Clinches Gold, Regains World Number One Spot

Ace Indian wrestler Vinesh Phogat has clinched a gold in the prestigious Matteo Pellicone Ranking Series, consequently leaping by 14 points to retrieve her world number one rank. Vinesh surmounted the opening session and continued to lead in the second to defeat Canada's Diana Mary Helen Weicker by 4-0 in the 53kg category. Notably, Vinesh is India's only female wrestler to have qualified for the upcoming Tokyo Olympics.
