PM Modi Officially Launches 5G Services

PM Modi inaugurated the 6th India Mobile Congress at Pragati Maidan in Delhi, and launched officially launched 5G services on October 1. In the event, three major telecom operators demonstrated the potential of 5G services in India, in front of PM Modi. The operators also demonstrated that 5G services will help in precision drone farming, high-security routers, AI based cyber threat detection platforms, automated guided vehicles and more.

PM Modi To Launch 5G Test Bed To Mark 25 Years Of TRAI

PM Modi via video conferencing, will address a programme marking the silver jubilee celebrations of the establishment of Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI), on May 17. He will also launch the 5G Test Bed, developed at a cost of over Rs 220 crore. The 5G Test Bed has been developed by a total of eight institutes headed by IIT Madras, to support the next generation technologies.

Jio Ranks 1st In Download Speed, Vodafone Idea Ranks 1st In Upload Speed: TRAI

Reliance Jio surpassed all the 4G service providers in India to get the top spot by providing the highest average data download speed of 21.9 megabit per second in October, as per telecom regulator TRAI. Vodafone Idea (VIL) registered a downloading speed of 15.6 Mbps in October whereas Airtel recorded 13.2 Mbps. However, VIL defeated others in terms of 4G data upload speed with 7.6 Mbps in October.

Jio Leads Wireless Subscribers Base With 6.1 Million New Users In July

In a recent report published by the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI), Jio led an active wireless subscriber base with  6.1 million users while Bharati Airtel stood second at 2.3 million for the month of July. "Based on the active subscribers market, Jio now shares the market leadership position with Bharti," the report highlighted. The pace of Bharti Airtel's new subscribers slowed down in the recorded month.

Jio Tops In 4G Download Speed; Vodafone Ranks 1 In Upload For April

The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) has revealed that with a speed of 20.1 Mbps, Reliance Jio had the highest download speed in 4G networks for April 2021. While the nearest competitor Vodafone was approximately three times less than Jio at 7 Mbps, it was followed by Idea at 5.8 Mbps. For uploading speed, Vodafone topped the chart at 6.7 Mbps, followed by Idea at 6.1 Mbps.

TRAI Halts Service Provider SMSes Amid New Regulations

To implement new regulations, the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) has suspended telecom service provider SMSes for a week to allow registrations of messaging organisations. Jio Makes All Domestic Voice Calls Free From January 1

Reliance Jio has announced to offer free voice calls to any network in India starting January 1, 2021. Reportedly, telecom giant scrapped Interconnect Usage Charges (IUC) to make all domestic calls over other networks free. Jio said that it has shown its commitment to not charge for off-net voice call-charges as the IUC provisions have been abolished by the telecom regulator TRAI. Moreover, it stated it cares about its customers.

TRAI Appoints P D Vaghela as New Chairman

P.D. Vaghela, on September 28, has been appointed as the new TRAI chairman, succeeding RS Sharma who served for almost 5 years. Vaghela, an IAS officer from Gujarat, is currently serving as a secretary in the Department of Pharmaceuticals (DOP) under the Ministry of Chemicals and Fertilizers and was also the Commissioner of Commercial Tax in Gujarat during the 2017 GST implementation. Vodafone Idea to Reframe Features of RedX to Avoid TRAI's Ban

Vi (Vodafone-Idea) has planned to reconstruct the features of its RedX plan to avoid a ban from the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI). Vi plans to remove its 'faster data speed' and 'priority network access' features from RedX and resubmit the tariff plan to TRAI. Vi had introduced the plan in 2019. Earlier, Airtel had also faced a similar ban, which was later revoked after it tweaked its plan.

'No Regulations For OTT Apps'- TRAI Addresses to Telecom Companies

Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) stated that Over-The-Top (OTT) platforms including Google, Facebook, and Whatsapp, currently do not need a regulatory body.
