Guwahati-Bikaner Express Derails, Kills 3 & 20 Injured, Authority Orders Inquiry

On January 13, Guwahati-Bikaner Express derailed, killing three people and left 20 injured. The PM Modi and West Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee condemned the incident and assured support and inquiry. In addition, TMC announced Rs 5 lakh, Rs 1 lakh and Rs 25,000 for deceased, severely injured and minor injured people, respectively. In addition, the Indian Railways ordered, a high level railway inquiry in the incident.

Uttar Pradesh: Train Crashes Into Vehicles At Crossing, Kills 5

At least 5 people were reported dead after a train crashed into three vehicles at a manned level crossing on April 22 in Uttar Pradesh’s Shahjahanpur district. Reportedly, the crossing gate was open which led to the Lucknow-Chandigarh Super Fast Express run over a mini truck with the victims inside. Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath expressed his condolences and offered Rs 2 lakh compensation to the deceased.

No Human Deaths From Train Accidents In Past 22 Months: Piyush Goyal

Replying to a question on railway safety in the Rajya Sabha, Railway Minister Piyush Goyal on February 12 stated that no fatalities in train accidents have occurred after March 22, 2019. Besides, he said that the government also keeps a pre and post-monsoon check of the 34,665 railway bridges which are over 100 years old. The union minister also assured the house to use sensors and drones to monitor the keep-up of the archaic bridges.
