Karnataka government has welcomed eligible retired drivers below the age of 62 years to work on a contract basis as the transport strike in Karnataka intensifies. Water Taxis Likely To Operate In And Around Mumbai From May
Come May, water taxi services will become operational in and around Mumbai. The decision has been taken after successful completion of goods-cum-passenger ferry service RoPax, launched in 2020, that witnessed one lakh passengers in 20 weeks between Mumbai and Mandwa. Reportedly, water taxis will have 14 to 45 passenger seats and private players will be running the services. Moreover, it has been planned to run water taxis on 12 routes.

Centre Exempts Permit Need For Oxygen Carrying Vehicles Till Sept 30
The Road Transport Ministry has extended the permit exemption for vehicles carrying oxygen till September 30. Earlier, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the Centre had announced an waiver for the permit requirement, under the Motor Vehicle Act 1998, till March 31. KSRTC to Cut Down Unnecessary Costs, Pay Salaries to Their Employees
Karnataka Government on September 1 released a relief package of Rs 423 crore for the Road Transport Corporations (RTC), and instructed them to pay salaries and not to buy new buses. The RTCs, which nosedived owing to the lockdown, had requested funds to pay salaries to their employees. The RTCs are also directed to cut down unnecessary posts. Low ridership even after the services were restored, affected their revenue.

Maharashtra Resumes Inter-District Bus Services; No E-pass Required
Maharashtra Government has decided to resume inter-district bus services of the Maharashtra State Road Transport Corporation from August 19.
