Blind Woman Sues Uber For $1.1 Mn For Discrimination, Denying Rides

A San Francisco-based woman named Lisa Irving has sued Uber for $1.1Mn for denying her ride and discriminating for her disability. Irving, a blind woman who uses guide dog, was denied ride by the drivers while commuting to work. Bullied and verbally abused, Irving’s ride was deliberately cancelled by two drivers. After receiving no response from the company, Irving sued Uber, accusing them of discriminating her on 14 occasions.

Delhi: Ola, Uber Drivers on Strike; Demand Extension of Loan Moratorium

Almost two lakh Ola and Uber drivers began a strike on September 1 in Delhi-NCR demanding a fare hike and extension of the moratorium on loan repayment. Kamaljeet Singh Gill, president of Sarvodaya Drivers Association of Delhi said that drivers are scared that banks will tow away their vehicles for not paying EMIs as the moratorium ended on August 31. Gill mentioned that they had already requested the government once.
