Vijay Mallya & Family Loses Legal Battle To Retain London Home; Faces Eviction

Indian fugitive business tycoon, Vijay Mallya and his family, will be evicted from their lavish home in London. Vijay Mallya held a mortgage obtained from Swiss Bank UBS on the property. The mortgagee won the case against Mallya after he failed to meet a previous repayment deadline in April 2020. The Court refused a request by Mallya`s lawyers for a stay on repaying the UBS loan.

US To Demand UK HC To Extradite Wikileaks Founder Julian Assange

In the latest development, the United States government has decided to appeal a British Judge to overturn the last decision and extradite Wikileaks founder Julian Assange to the US. In January, UK district Judge Vanessa Baraitser had rejected the extradition request saying Assange's security may be compromised in the US. Notably, Assange is accused of releasing 5,00,000 secret files related to the Afghanistan and Iraq Military campaigns.

UK HC Permits Nirav Modi To Appeal Against Extradition To India

Fugitive diamond merchant Nirav Modi's appeal against his extradition to India has been granted by the UK High Court on mental health and human rights grounds. His lawyer pleaded to the UK high court that his extradition could cause serious health problems concerning "severe depression" and "suicide". Modi defrauded the Indian government for over $2 billion and has been held at Wandsworth Prison in London since 2019.
