UK Reports 2,300+ COVID-19 Cases Of Indian Strain In 86 Districts

UK Health Secretary Matt Hancock on May 17 warned the people of the highly transmissible Indian COVID-19 strain B.1617.2 found in 86 districts. Requesting the citizens to stay at home and be cautious while meeting friends indoors, Hancock stated that 2,323 cases have been identified across the UK. Appealing people to get vaccinated, Hancock said lax behaviour against the new strains can jeopardise the advances we’ve made”.

As COVID Cases Mount, UK PM Boris Johnson Cancels His India Visit

For the second time in the year, British PM Boris Johnson has again cancelled his India tour due to COVID-19 surge. Arindam Bagchi, spokesperson, Ministry of External Affairs stated, "it has been decided by mutual agreement" adding that the two nations will have a virtual meeting instead. Earlier slated on April 26, the bilateral meet will finalise a UK-India Enhanced Trade Partnership in coming days.
