Russia, China, Pakistan Likely To be Removed From UN Human Rights Council: Neuer

Executive Director of UN Watch Hillel Neuer urged the Geneva Summit for Human Rights and Democracy 2022 to expel Russia from the United Nations Human Rights Council (UNHRC), due to its invasion of Ukraine. Besides, Neuer also urged to expel China and Pakistan for 'Human Rights abuses' and 'terrorism', respectively. "It is only the second time in history that member states of UNHRC are likely to be removed," said Neuer.

US Asks For Russia's Suspension From Human Rights Council Over Bucha Incident

The US ambassador to the United Nations (UN) said that US will ask the UN General Assembly to remove Russia from the UN Human Rights Council. The move has come after Ukraine claimed that Russian troops killed several innocent civilians in the town of Bucha. A vote based on two-third majority in the UN General Assembly would be taken to remove Russia from the Human Rights Council.

8 UN Peacekeepers Die In Plane Crash: Congo

In a tragic incident, eight UN peacekeepers were killed in a plane crash on March 30. The incident occurred in the Democratic Republic of Congo, where the UN peacekeepers were on their way in a UN helicopter. At first, the officials lost contact with the helicopter and later confirmed the crash. UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres expressed his condolences to the families of the deceased, over a tweet.

India Earns Seat In UNESCO's World Heritage Committee After 2011

India has been added to the World Heritage Committee of UNESCO (United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation). UN Slams Ethiopia For Ordering 7 Officals To Leave Within 72 Hours

The United Nations on October 1 warned Ethiopia after it ''declared a persona non grata'' or unwelcome for seven UN officials on October 1. Ethiopia also ordered them to leave the country within 72 hours for ''meddling'' in the country's internal affairs. US Authorities Arrest 2 Myanmar Citizens For Plotting To Kill UN Ambassador

In an alleged plot to kill UN ambassador, Kyaw Moe Tun, two Myanmar citizens seeking shelter in New York have been arrested by the US authorities. The culprits have been identified as Phyo Hein Htut and Ye Hein Zaw. The accused wanted Moe Tun to resign from his post, refusal to which led them to take a drastic step. Both of them will be sentenced to five years of prison.
