Chandigarh Electricity Department Protests Against Privatisation; Residents Suffer

Employees of the Chandigarh Electricity Department called for a three-day strike, starting from February 23. The protest is against the Union Territory Government, which had announced a "power privatisation". Opposing the same, the strike has been organised, resulting in a power outage in Punjab's Capital. Reportedly, elderly people and kids are suffering as there is no electricity. The protestors demanded a solution for the issue.

Ladakh Reports 163 Fresh Cases Of COVID-19; 129 Cases From Leh & 34 Cases From Kargil

The union territory of Ladakh reported 163 fresh COVID-19 cases in the last 24 hours, taking the tally to 24,818, while the active cases came down to 1244. The region has recorded 222 COVID deaths since the outbreak, however, no deaths were reported on January 24. Out of the fresh 163 cases, 129 have been reported from Leh district and 34 were reported from Kargil district.

Diu Schools Closed Amid Rise In COVID-19 Cases

Amid the rise in COVID-19 cases, officials of the Union Territory Diu have decided to close schools for classes 1 to 8 from January 6. "COVID-19 cases are increasing, so we've decided to close down pre-primary, primary schools, and Anganwadi centers," said Diu Collector Saloni Rai. The administration has also requested police to ensure that tourists of Diu are taking all precautionary measures and following COVID-19 appropriate behavior.

Puducherry Reports First 2 Cases Of Omicron: Health Director G Sriramulu

Union territory (UT) Puducherry reported first two cases of COVID-19's new variant, Omicron, on December 28. A 20-year-old woman and a 80-year-old man were reported Omicron positive, but details of how they got infected is awaited. "Health department personnel visited the areas from where the two patients hailed and are trying to find out weather they had a contact history," said G. Sriramulu, the Health Director of Puducherry.

Ladakh's Entire Population Administered With 1st Covid Vaccine Dose

Ladakh becomes the first Union Territory to vaccinate all of its people of all eligible groups, including the guest population (Nepal citizens, migrant workers, and hotel workers) with the first Covid-19 dose, said Ladakh MP Jamyang Tsering Namgyal. A senior district official said that the adequate supply of vaccines supplied by the Center paced up the speed of vaccination despite the difficulties.

Union Minister: About 76 Lakh Remdesivir Vial Allocated To Various States And UTs

Union Minister Sadananda Gowda tweeted a document revealing the allocation of Remdesivir vials to various States and UTs from April 23 to May 23. A substantial increase has been made in overall production and allocation' of the drug, he added. He asked the States and UTs to monitor the distribution of drug in govt and private hospitals. The data states 76 Lakh Remdesivir vials allocated to the States and UTs.
