Serbian Tennis player Novak Djokovic beat American wildcard Jenson Brooksby on September 6 at the US Open to make his way in the quarterfinals. As Djokovic chased his 21st major and a calendar-year Grand Slam, he struggled against Brooksby, the 99th ranked player who threw a challenging start. However, for the second time in a row, the world's number one struggled to keep going in the first set.

French tennis player Benoit Paire, after winning the match against South Korea's Kwon Soonwoo 7-5, 6-4, 6-4 in the first round of the French Open confessed that he was mentally exhausted after encountering mixed COVID results. Paire was removed out of US Open for testing positive and was allowed to play in the German Open despite testing positive. Paire said, “I'm tired. I'm tired physically. I'm tired mentally.”

Djokovic has been disqualified from US Open after he accidentally hit a lines-woman on her throat, while playing his 16th round. He was trailing by 5-6 in the first set against Spanish opponent, Carreno Busto. After discussion, referee declared the Spaniard as winner by default. Djokovic was looking for the 18th Grand Slam title in US Open 2020 and close the gap on Federer and Nadal, both absent from the tournament.
