2 Women From Uzbekistan Held For Illegally Crossing Border Into Bihar

Police have arrested two women from Uzbekistan who entered Indian territory illegally from Nepal. In addition, the women tried to enter Bihar's Madhubani district without a proper visa. It is suspected that the women are allegedly part of a racket and involved in some illegal activities. They were reportedly living in Delhi for over two months. The police arrested the women when they were returning to Nepal,'' informed an official.

Uzbekistan Reduces 60% Electricity Supply To Afghanistan

Electricity supply to Afghanistan has been reduced by Uzbekistan by 60%. The Kabul authorities have said that electricity exports to Afghanistan have been reduced without coordination, while Uzbekistan officials said that the drop is triggered by the technical problem, that had arisen at the Marjan power station. The country has reduced the amount of electricity available for exports to Afghanistan, a news agency reported.

Uzbekistan Reports 1st Case Of Omicron

The first case of Omicron variant of COVID-19 was confirmed in Uzbekistan, following which pandemic restrictions are tightened in the country, Health Ministry said on January 9. They said that the case was confirmed after a foreign citizen arrived Uzbekistan on January 7, turned infected with the variant. The country has so far registered 200,341 COVID cases and 1,494 related deaths.

India's Ajay Singh Wins Gold Medal In Commonwealth Weightlifting C'ships

Ajay Singh, an Indian weightlifter, bagged the gold medal at the ongoing Commonwealth Weightlifting Championships in the men's 81kg category on December 12 in Uzbekistan's Tashkent. The win also secured Singh's entry for the 2022 Commonwealth Games in Birmingham. Earlier on December 11, Hazarika Popy won silver in the women's 59 kg category. The Championships started on December 7 and will end on December 17.

Nagal who came in the 2020 Tokyo Olympics with a surprise entry beat former world No. 33 Uzbekistan's Denis Istomin with 6-4, 6-7, 6-4 in the opening match. With Sumit Nagal moving on to the second round, India's hope in the Men's Singles remains afloat.
