In India, 3,230 new Covid-19 cases were reported, which is lowest in the past 3 months, taking the active cases tally to 42,358. On September 27, the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare confirmed 32 deaths and 4,255 recoveries in the past 24 hours. With this, India has 0.10% active cases rate, 98.72% recovery rate and fatality rate at 1.12%. In addition, 217.82 crore Covid-19 vaccine were administered.

As monkeypox cases are rising in India, the Serum Institute of India (SII) which manufactured the Covid-19 vaccine, spoke about the possibility of a monkeypox vaccine in India. SII CEO Adar Poonawalla said, "We are talking to Novovax. We really need to see whether there will be a lot of demand or whether in three to four months it fizzles out." The UT Chandigarh Administration has decided to bar unvaccinated school students, who are eligible for vaccination, from attending physical classes. There are no options for online classes either. Notably, a sero-survey had revealed in July 2021, that 69% of the children in Chandigarh already had Covid antibodies, due to past infection. Dr Jayaprakash Muliyil, an NTAGI member, had earlier said that there was no need to vaccinate children.
