WHO Gives Name To New Variant Of Covid-19: Omicron

The newly detected Covid-19 variant B.1.1529 has been designated as "omicron" by the World Health Organisation (WHO) on November 26. The cases of the new variant have rapidly been rising in South Africa. The WHO also termed it as a ''variant of concern'', saying it can spread at faster rates than other variants. ''Preliminary evidence suggests an increased risk of reinfection with this variant,'' added WHO.

48 Cases Of Delta-plus Reported In India; Maharastra Tops With 21 

The Delta-plus variant also known as "variant of concern" reported 48 cases in 11 states of India. It is highly transmissible within confined areas according to the government, with 21 cases alone in Maharashtra. Indian Council of Medical Research has claimed that VoC “is present in 12 countries” and has increased from 10.3% in May to 51% in June. The efficacies of available vaccines are still under examination.
