The Karnataka government, on October 3, has officially declared Vijayanagara as its 31st district. The new district has been carved from the Bellary district. While Hospet will be its administrative capital. The new district has a famous tourist destination, known as Hampi, the site of the Vijayanagara dynasty. ''This new district has been formed with the blessing of former CM BS Yediyurappa,'' said incumbent CM Basavaraj Bommai.
