India Votes Against Russia In UNSC For 1st Time At Procedural Vote On Ukraine

India voted against Russia in a "procedural vote" on Ukraine at the United Nations Security Council on August 24, when the 15-member strong UN body invited Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy to address a meeting via video teleconference. This was India's first vote against Russia on the topic of Ukraine. Zelensky requested that the Russian Federation be held responsible for its activities against Ukraine.

Nawab Malik & Anil Deshmukh Petition SC For Permission To Vote In MLC Elections

Nawab Malik and Anil Deshmukh have appealed to Supreme Court to be allowed to vote in Maharashtra Legislative Council elections. Both politicians are presently detained and have filed an appeal against the Bombay HC's June 17 decision. "It is not inclined to accede to the broad proposition that permitting the persons (who are otherwise not qualified to vote in the election) to vote strengthens the democracy," Bombay HC ruled.

Gujarat Panchayat Polls Comeplted; 60% Average Voter Turn Out Recorded

Gujarat State Election Commission on December 19 said that the polling in 8,684-Gram Panchayats has been completed with an average voter turn out of 60% till 6 PM. Reportedly, overall voting remained peacefully, barring a few ''minor controversies and clashes in the polls''. On December 21, the counting of votes will be started. Notably, the Gujarat Assembly elections are scheduled for the next year.
