Rahul Gandhi Calls Off All Rallies In Bengal Citing COVID-19 Threat
Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on April 18 called off all his election rallies in West Bengal, citing the current COVID-19 situations. Taking to Twitter, the leader stated, "I am suspending all my public rallies in West Bengal. I would advise all political leaders to think deeply about the consequences." Meanwhile, voting for the remaining three phases of the state assembly elections is slated for April 22, 26 and 29.

EC Seizes Over Rs 1,000 Crore In The Ongoing Five State Assembly Polls
The Election Commission has revealed that it seized Rs 1,000 crore worth of unaccounted cash, liquor, drugs, etc. in the ongoing five state assembly polls. West bengal: Instances of Violence Recorded During 5th Phase Of Election
West bengal recorded an instances of violence marked during its fifth phase of polling, on April 17. While the reports of violence have been filed in the places such as Nadia, but the overall process has been largely peaceful. Citing surge in COVID-19 cases, the Election Commission of India has issued certain guidelines for both the parties. However, TMC claims to combine all the three phases of polling.

Bengal: CPI(M) Defers Conducting Big Rallies As COVID Threat Intensifies
Amid the sudden spike in COVID-19 cases, the CPI(M) has cancelled to hold big rallies. The party on April 14 stated to conduct only door-to-door and social media campaigning for the remaining phases of the West Bengal Assembly elections. CPI(M) leader Md Salim stated, "We will undertake door to doors and small group meetings with all Covid-19 measures in place." Meanwhile, ruling TMC has blamed the Centre for the crisis.

West Bengal: Violence Persists In Kolkata, Multiple Complaints Of Bomb Attacks
Due to the conflicts between several Party's workers, Kolkata recorded multiple complaints of vandalism and bomb attacks in Behala area. Several cases have been reported by the CPM-ISF combine of Sanjukta Morcha at Survey park and Tijala, said police officials. However, Around 18 CRPF companies has been deployed in the city while 13 will keep monitoring the sensitive areas, and five will guard EVMs at the poll centres.

WB Polls: Mamata Banerjee Stages Dharna Over EC's Ban On Her Campaign
West Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee staged a dharna at Gandhi Murthi in Kolkata on April 13, against the EC's decision to ban her from campaigning. Banerjee stated that EC's decision is 'undemocratic and unconstitutional'. However, the EC has prohibited Banerjee for 24-hours citing her comments on central forces and alleged religious overtones. TMC vice-president, Yashwant Sinha alleged that EC's actions are in favour of BJP.

WB Polls: EVMs Malfunction Delays Voting Process, Escalates COVID Risk
EVMs in several areas of WB malfunctioned on April 10, causing inconvenience to the voters due to which the voting process delayed almost an hour. The EVM at Ranikuthi Government Housing estate of Tollygunge failed thrice before technicians were called to fix the issue. "By the time the EVM had been fixed, the queue had lengthened....no social distancing which made it quite risky," a resident said.
