3 Kg Pangolin Scales, 38 Pangolin Claws Seized; Smugglers Arrested

As many as three kilograms of pangolin scales and 38 pangolin claws were seized by the Kolkata Police Detective Department and the Wildlife Crime Control Bureau (WCCB) of the Union ministry of environment, forest and climate change on July 11 from central Kolkata. The wildlife smugglers were held when a joint team investigated a bus on Kolkata’s Bentinck Street. Besides, the accused will be soon produced before the court.

World's 3rd Oldest Asiatic Elephant "Rani" Dies At Hyderabad Zoo

Rani, an 83-year-old female jumbo who was also the world's third oldest Asiatic elephant, has died at the Nehru Zoological Park in Hyderabad. Besides, the zoo has also reported the loss of a 21-year-old leopard Ayyappa who succumbed to multiple-organ failure on June 9. Interestingly, Rani was a gift to the zoo by Hyderabad's last Nizam Mir Osman Ali Khan. Reportedly, the animals have died due to age-related ailments.

TN Man Booked For Eating Dead Snake To Stay Safe Against COVID-19

In a bizarre incident, a 50-year-old man in Tamil Nadu’s Madurai district has been booked for chewing a dead snake to stay safe against COVID-19. The man named Vadivelu can be seen, in a viral video, eating the snake and claiming that snakes generate immunity against coronavirus. According to police, Vadivelu was drunk at the time of the incident. Meanwhile, the forest department has slapped him with a Rs-7000 fine.

Madhya Pradesh’s Kuno National Park To Receive 8 African Cheetahs

Lightning Caused The Death Of 18 Elephants In Assam, Report Claims

The post mortem reports of the elephants that died on May 12 at Kundoli Proposed Reserve Forest in Assam reveals death due to lightning. Reportedly, the evidences are still being investigated in a joint efforts of forest officials & meteorological department to provide an accurate reason. 18 Elephant Found Dead In Assam; Forensic Experts To Find Cause

To investigate the death of 18 elephants in Assam, the state authorities on May 14 conducted a post-mortem and sent the report to forensic laboratories for further examination. While the initial suspected reason is a lightning strike, experts fear that mass poisoning could also be a reason. Massive Forest Fire Erupts In Mizoram; Air Force Called For Rescue

Make Rules For Species Not Covered Under WPA, 1972: Delhi HC

The Delhi High Court has asked the central government to frame rules for exotic species that are not protected under the Wildlife (Protection) Act, 1972. Filed by animal rights group 'PETA', the plea sought a status for a rescued hippopotamus. Moreover, the court directed the authorities to permanently keep the hippo in a Jamnagar facility. Reportedly, the hippo was found in poor health from an Asiad circus.

Tailless Frog Marsupial's New Species Discovered In Peru's Amazon Forest

In a fresh ecological discovery, a species of Marsupial, a tailless frog, has been traced in a national sanctuary of Peru's Amazon jungle. The official announcement regarding the same was made by the Peruvian National Service of Protected Natural Areas on April 12. This Gastrotheca genus has ‘thick granular skin on the back, a green dorsal coloration without a pattern, turquoise iris and a belly without spots, specks or dots.
