Namibia Returnees Cheetahs Being Monitored In MP's Kuno National Park

Madhya Pradesh's Kuno National Park experts are monitoring the eight cheetahs brought from Namibia, who are trying to acclimatise to the new environment in India. On September 20, wildlife experts said they are monitoring from hole in a loft near their quarantine enclosures to ensure the least human intervention. There are five female and three male Cheetahs, aged between 30 to 66 months and are in good condition, said DFO.

STF Arrests One Person For Wildlife Trafficking In Odisha

Watermelon, Cucumber Served To Animals To Beat Heat At Tanday Park: J&K

In Jammu and Kashmir's Tanday park, arrangments have been made for the animals to beat the scorching heat this summer. Reportedly, watermelon, cucumber and green fodder are served to the animals, along with 24 hour water supply. A forest guard also stated that they sprinkle water on the sheds to them cool them down. Tanday park is home to spotted deers, barking deers, a goral deer, reptiles and other animals.

Leopard Rescued From Army Cantonment In Japaiguri

An adult leopard has been rescued from the Binnaguri Cantonment. The leopard had strayed into the area earlier on May 8, causing alarm among the residents. The cantonment authorities soon alerted forest officials about the presence of the big cat in the area. The leopard was rescued by the officials, and taken to the Lataguri Environmental Observatory, where it would undergo treatment.

4 Men Held For Gang-Raping Monitor Lizard In Sahyadri Tiger Reserve: Maharashtra

In a bizarre incident, four men allegedly gang-raped a Bengal monitor lizard inside the Sahyadri Tiger Reserve, Maharashtra. All four men have been identified. They had allegedly come to the Chandoli village for hunting. The incident came to light when the forest officials checked the phone of one of the men. The heinous act had been recorded on camera. This reptile is protected under the Wildlife Protection Act 1972.

Gir National Park Brings Back 20 Indian Grey Hornbills After Decades

Authorities at the Gir National Park in Gujarat have released 20 Indian grey Hornbills into the facility, since it was last seen a few decades ago. Chief conservator of forests stated that they would add more than 20 hornbills in Gir, to increase the bird's population. He commented, "Once their numbers in Gir reach about 500 pairs, it will be safe to assume that their population is stable".

Two Leopards Found Dead In MP; Officials Expect Investigation

In a shocking incident, two adult leopards were found dead in Sheopur district of Madhya Pardesh. One among the two have been suspected to have strayed from Ranthambore National Park, Rajasthan, forest officials confirmed on January 24. "One apparently died about five days back, while another one is suspected to have died two-three days back," Officials claimed. However, the exact cause of the death is yet to be discovered.

US Reports First SARS-CoV-2 Case In Deer

The US Department of Agriculture reported SARS-CoV-2's first case in wild white-tailed deer. "We do not know how the deer were exposed to SARS-CoV-2. It’s possible they were exposed through people, the environment, other deer, or another animal species," said Lyndsay Cole, the spokesperson of USDA. The previous month, USDA reported that white-tailed deer in Illinois, Michigan, New York, and Pennsylvania got infected with SARS-CoV-2.

Asian Wild Buffaloes Are On Verge Of Extinction In Chhattisgarh

Chhattisgarh state animal, wild buffalo is on the edge of extinction. Though several efforts were taken by the state government and forest department, they failed to take measures to save the wife buffalo. On August 25, a female buffalo of seven years old died and post mortem report stated that the reason for death was pulmonary issues, said Ayush Jain, deputy director of the tiger reserve.
