Rise In Temperature Brings Respite From Cold Waves: Kashmir

The minimum temperature improved in the Kashmir, which brings some respite from cold wave conditions throughout the valley, as the temperature rose by several notches on January 28 night. The officials have said that Srinagar recorded a low of -1°C, up from -3.6°C, while the Gulmarg recorded -7.5°C from -10.4°C. Notably, Kashmir is going through the harshest period of winter, known as 'Chilai Kalan', which will end in two days.

National Capital Delhi Records Over 11°C Temperature

Delhi witnessed a cloudy morning during the morning of January 6, with the minimum temperature settling at 11.7°C, five notches above the average.  The Indian Meteorological Department said, the city received 9 mm rainfall in the last 24 hours till 8:30 am. In addition, the National Capital's air quality remained in the 'very poor' category as the air quality index clocked 339 at 8 am.

Additional BSF Jawans Deployed In Jammu & Kashmir Amid Foggy Weather

In order to avoid infiltration amid foggy and harsh weather in winters, more Border Security Force (BSF) personnel have been deployed in RK Pura area of Jammu & Kashmir. "We have to stay more alert in winters. Besides the deployment of additional manpower there are extra duty hours," said a BSF jawan. Besides, latest night vision cameras were also provided to BSF for manual patrolling.

Delhi Records Lowest Temperature; AQI Moves To 'Poor' Category

Delhi recorded its minimum temperature of the season on December 12, which is 6.4 degrees Celsius, said the India Meteorological Department (IMD). Earlier on December 11, the national capital recorded a temperature of 8.3 degrees Celsius. Besides, the air quality index (AQI) in Delhi was at 255, which falls under the 'poor' category. The AQI of Gurgaon and Noida was 200 and 213, respectively.

Winter In Rajasthan Intensifies; Temperature Drops To 4.5 Deg C

IMD Predicts Colder Winter This Season In North India

Releasing its winter forecast for December to February period, the India Meteorological Department on November 29 indicated that north India may witness bitter cold this time around. IMD Director General Mrutunjay Mohapatra said, “The winter is likely to be harsher in north India this season".
