Woman Isn't Property, Consent For Marriage Is Necessary: Taliban's Decree

The Taliban government on December 3 issued a special decree stating that women should not be considered as property but free human being in Afghanistan. Reportedly, the Taliban leader Haibatullah Akhundzada said women cannot be ''used for exchange in a deal or enmity''. As per the decree, women's consent for marriage has also been made necessary. Widows can also ask share in husband's and father's property.

Kuwait Allows Women To Take Part In Military Services

In a step to empower women in the country, Kuwait allowed women to join the National Military Services on October 12. However, women will initially serve in the field of medical and military support. ''Kuwaiti women have proven their achievements in several fields,'' said Kuwait's Deputy PM and Defense Minister Sheikh Hamad Jaber Al-Ali Al-Sabah. Earlier in 2008, Kuwait allowed women to join the police.
