Delete Social Media History, Hide: Footballer Khalida Popal to Afghan Women
Khalida Popal, former captain of the Afghanistan women's national football team, has advised Afghan women to delete their social media history and to hide, as the safety of women remains uncertain with the Taliban regaining control. "I received so many death threats and challenges because I was quoted on national TV. I was calling the Taliban our enemy," she said. Popal herself has fled Afghanistan in 1996.

NCW Launches 24/7 Helpline For Women Who Encounter Violence
The National Commission for Women (NCW) has introduced a 24X7 online help service to assist the affected women who are subjected to sexual harassment and violence. Women can call "7827170170" and a team of trained experts and specialists will offer swift responses. The number will also give access to one-stop centers, psycho-social counseling, and other services. The service will be operated from the Delhi office of the NCW.

Centre Plans OSCs In 9 Countries To Help Women Abroad From Violence
To help the Indian women suffering abroad, the Centre has decided to come up with 10 One-Stop Centres (OSC) in nine countries. The two OSCs will come up in Saudi Arabia and one each in Bahrain, Kuwait, Oman, Qatar, UAE, Australia, Canada and Singapore. Introduced after the Nirbhaya case, the OSCs will provide police, medical, legal, psychological support and temporary shelter support for the women inflicted by violence.

Punjab: CM Amarinder Announces Free Travel For Women In State Run Buses
Punjab CM Amarinder Singh on March 31 announced free travel for women in Punjab Roadways Transport Corporation, Punjab Roadways Buses and locally owned city bus services. While the free travel excluded AC, Volvo and HVAC (heating, ventilation, and air conditioning) buses, the CM claimed of fulfilling 85% of manifesto promises. Moreover, the CM said that while the promise was to reduce the bus tickets for women to 50%, he made it all free.

Cases Registered Under Domestic Violence Act Drop By 4.5%: NCRB
The National Crime Records Bureau data has revealed that cases registered under the Protection of Women from Domestic Violence Act, 2005 declined in 2019. While the year 2018 recorded 579 cases, 2019 figures dipped by 4.5% to 553 cases. However, the cases registered in matters of 'cruelty by husband or his relatives' hiked by 21.3% for the same period. Indian Railways Issues Guidelines To Prevent Crimes Against Woman
Making an effort to ensure women safety, the Indian Railways has issued guidelines, including an action plan, to keep the women passengers safe. Govt Plans To Amend CrPC, IPC To Boost Women's Safety: MoS Kishan
Focusing on strengthening women's safety in the country, Union Minister G Kishan Reddy said the government would amend the Criminal Code (CrPC) and the Indian Penal Code (IPC). Speaking about installing fear of law in people, he pointed out that women's safety is of great importance to the Union Government. Oxfam Study Finds Nirbhaya Fund Going Underutilised, Underfunded
A report by Oxfam India surfaced that funds allocated to Nirbhaya fund largely go "unutilized" and "underfunded." The study revealed that Rs 4357.62 crore funds allocated during 2019-20 remained unused owing to the unclear mechanism.
