Black Fungus Mainly Caused By Steroids' Misuse, Says AIIMS Director

As the cases of mucormycosis aka 'black fungus' have increased in the nation, AIIMS Director Dr Randeep Guleria has warned against the misuse of steroids. Dr Guleria on May 15 stated steroid-taking patients, who have diabetes or COVID-19, are more prone to the deadly fungal infection that is causing high mortality. He said as the COVID-19 cases are rising fast, steroids' misuse must be avoided to curb the black fungus.

2.5 Billion People Likely To Suffer Hearing Loss By 2050: WHO Report

The World Health Organization's first "World Report on Hearing" has revealed that nearly 2.5 billion people will suffer from some form of hearing impairment by 2050. WHO Malaria Report: India Shows Significant Drop Of Cases In Last 20 Years

WHO's recent World Malaria Report 2020 has shown that India has recorded a significant drop in malaria cases during 2000-19 among the south-east Asian countries. Reportedly, the count fell to 5.6 million in 2019 from 20 million cases in 2000. The report has shown a decline in malarial deaths from 29,500 (2000) to 7700 (2019). However, India still accounts for 88% cases and reports 86% malarial deaths in the region.

Physical Activity May Reduce Five Million Deaths Every Year: WHO

WHO said at least five million deaths could be avoided in a year if people involved in physical activity. It also suggested workout times for different age groups. While adolescents are advised a minimum one-hour moderate work out a day, Adults aged between 18 to 64 have been advised for 75-150 minutes of intensive aerobics every week.
