WTA Cancels Tennis Events In China Due To Security Risk
Owing to the concern of the safety of players and well-being of China's Peng Shuai, the Women's Tennis Association (WTA) on December 1, said that it has decided to suspend all tournaments in China in 2022. Reportedly, Peng ''isn't allowed to communicate freely'' after she alleged that China's former Vice-Premier Zhang Gaoli sexually assaulted her in early November. The decision of the WTA was also backed by leading tennis figures.

Qatar Open: Sania Mirza Enters Doubles Quarterfinal With Andreja Klepac
Marking her return to WTA circuit after 12 months, Indian Tennis ace Sania Mirza registered her win at the Qatar Total open on March 1. Sania has now entered doubles quarterfinal with Slovenian partner Andreja Klepac, as they defeated Ukraine's Nadiia Kichenok and Lyudmyla Kichenok 6-4, 6-7(5), 10-5. Interestingly, Sania's previous return from her maternity leave was in January 2020 when she won the Hobart Open pairing with Nadiia.

Australian Open: Players To Undergo 14-Day Mandatory Quarantine
The first Grand Slam of 2021, Australian Open, that is scheduled from February 8-21 will be enveloped under 14-day quarantine rule for the players arriving Australia. The press release by the Victorian state government read that players and support staff would be tested before leaving for Australia as well as for minimum five times during quarantine. German Tennis Player Julia Goerges Retires At 31
German tennis star Julia Goerges announced her retirement from the game on October 22, ending a 15-year-long professional stint. Currently ranked at 45th, the 31-year-old player recorded bagged her highest ranking (9th) in 2018. She has seven titles under her name and most notably among them are Stuttgart Title of 2011, Moscow Title (2017), and WTA Elite Trophy in Zhuhai (2017).
