5 Youths Drown In Yamuna River: Delhi

In Delhi’s Yamuna river, five youths died due to drowning under a DND flyover during the immersion of Lord Krishna idol on August 28. The deceased have been identified as Ankit (20), Lucky (16), Lalit (17), Beeru (19) and Ritu Raj (20). Reportedly, while immersing, the idol got stuck in the water. When six persons entered the water to help with the situation, only five returned.

River Yamuna’s Water Level Crosses Danger Mark; Water At 204.98m

River Yamuna’s water level cross the warning mark on August 15, and is flowing above the danger level. The danger mark is 204.5, whereas the current water level has crossed 204.98. Reportedly, the excess water has been released from Hathni Kund Barrage in Haryana. Furthermore, the water levels are expected to rise to 205.25 m during 9 pm to 11 pm.

Delhi CM Kejriwal Urges People To Stay Away From Yamuna River Banks As Water Level Flows Near Danger Mark

The water level in Yamuna river is flowing near the danger mark, raising widespread concerns. Dekhi CM Arvind Kejriwal has urged people to stay away from the river banks. As of August 14, the water level stands at 204.91 metre, flowing slightly lesser than the danger mark, which is 205.33 metres. Overflowing of water has caused flooding in low lying areas near Mayur Vihar Phase I and Akshardham Temple.

Low-lying regions in Delhi have been inundated by the Yamuna's overflow water as a result of the city's ongoing rains. After their homes were inundated, people were forced to live on the streets of Delhi. On August 14, however, the Yamuna river was running at 204.91 meters, well below the danger line of 205.33 meters. The overflowing Yamuna river swamped low-lying regions near Mayur Vihar Phase I and Akshardham Temple.

Hand Grenade Discovered Along Delhi-Noida-Direct Flyway; Investigation Underway

Hand grenade discovered near the Delhi-Noida Direct flyway on June 12. On June 11, a group of young people swimming in Yamuna alerted police of a sack containing a hand grenade. Cops sealed the whole area to prevent any unwanted incidents. "We don't know exactly from where did it come. There are a few shops of scrap dealers in the adjoining areas. We are questioning them," said Mayur Vihar Police.

Water Supply To Remain Hit In Parts Of Delhi; Here Are Areas Affected

Water supply in parts of Delhi will remain hit, on June 10, reported Delhi Jal Board (DJB). DJB cited Haryana releasing less water in the Yamuna river. Haryana supplies a total of 610 million gallons of water to Delhi in a day using two canals. Delhi requires 1,200 MGD water, while DJB supplies 950 MGD. Water in North, West, South, Northeast and Central Delhi, will be available at low pressure.

Parts Of Delhi To Be Impacted By Water Shortage

Water supplies in portions of Delhi may be disrupted beginning June 9. The water level in the Wazirabad pond has been depleted as a result of Haryana's restriction on raw water flow into the Yamuna. Civil lines, Hindu Rao Hospital, and surrounding regions, as well as sections of the Cantonment and south Delhi, are all expected to be affected. Delhi has been experiencing a supply shortfall since May.

Water Supply In Parts of Delhi To Be Affected Again

The supply at water treatment plants at Haiderpur and Bawana has been disrupted, putting extra strain on Delhi's water supply. North, Northwest, West, and sections of South Delhi are potential locations where supply may be impacted. Wazirabad pond had a water level of 669 feet on May 17, whereas the Yamuna was completely dry. Delhi Sub-Branch has asked for more water from Haryana for the fourth time since April 30.

Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal Plans To Clean Yamuna By 2025

Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal planned to get the Yamuna river cleaned before the 2025 assembly elections. While speaking to the media on December 1, he reiterated his plans to clean the Yamuna river after the photographs of the frothing river got viral in November. ''We need innovative ways like alternative fuel or bio-fuel that not only will save us but also benefit farmers,'' added CM Kejriwal.

Delhi Govt Deploys 15 boats To Remove Froth From Yamuna

The Delhi government on November 9 deployed 15 boats to remove the foam formed in the Yamuna river with the help of ropes. The plan to remove the froth was prepared by the Delhi Pollution Control Committee (DPCC). ''The exercise will continue till the current frothing episode comes to an end,'' said an official. Reportedly, high phosphate content in detergents caused the formation of foam in the river.
