Bihar CM Nitish Kumar Hikes Reservation To 65%
In Bihar, CM Nitish Kumar announced a hike in reservations to 65%. The announcement was made on November 7, and the proposed hike will be tabled in the Assembly on November 9. The hike is divided into 10% reservations for the Economic Weaker Section, 20% for SCs, 2% for STs, 18% for OBCs, and 25% for EBCs. The reservation limit is above the approved 50% limit by the Supreme Court.

SC Restores Cheating Case Against Latha Rajinikanth

No Action Against Editors Guild Of India In Manipur Violence FIR: SC
The Supreme Court on September 11, extended till September 15 its order asking the Manipur Police not to take any coercive steps against four members of the Editors Guild of India (EGI) in connection with two FIRs lodged against them for alleged offences, including promoting enmity between two communities. A bench headed by Chief Justice DY Chandrachud said the operation has been extended until the next hearing on September 15.

CBI Files Petition In SC, Opposes Bail To Lalu Prasad Yadav In Fodder Scam
The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) moved the Supreme Court (SC) challenging the bail of Lalu Prasad Yadav in the Fodder Scam Case. On August 18, the central agency filed a petition, which is expected to be listed soon before the SC Bench. Notably, earlier, the Jharkhand High Court granted bail to Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) supremo and former Chief Minister of Bihar Lalu Prasad Yadav in the Fodder Scam.

SC Orders 3 Member Committee To Probe Manipur Violence
As Manipur ethnic violence is intensifying, the Supreme Court on August 7, ordered setting up of a committee of three former women high court judges to oversee relief and rehabilitation of victims. The three-member panel will also monitor the probe in criminal cases. Observing that its effort is to restore people's faith in the rule of law in the strife-torn state, the SC also decided to personally probe the matter.

Manipur Ethnic Violence: SC Seeks Response Over 30 Missing People
In violence-hit Manipur, at least 30 people went missing in the past three months, said reports. Neither the Manipur government, nor the state police able to find these missing people, who went out of their houses like usual, but never returned home. The Supreme Court in a recent hearing raised the concerns and asked the officials to take action. In addition, the opposition also slammed the BJP-government for no action.

Satyender Jain Gets Interim Bail On Medical Grounds
In breaking news, the Supreme Court granted interim bail to Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader Satyender Jain. The grant of bail was given on medical grounds, as the former Delhi Health Minister suddenly felt unconscious in Tihar Jail. He was rushed to the Deen Dayal Hospital, following which was shifted to the LNPJ Hospital in Delhi. Notably, Jain was arrested in 2022, by the ED in connection with money-laundering case.

Same Sex Marriage: SC Asks Centre To Provide Benefits Similar To Marriage
In a relief to homosexual, the Supreme Court on Thursday asked the Centre to find a way to give same-sex couples basic social benefits, like joint bank accounts or nominating a partner in insurance policies, even without legal recognition of their marital status. The statement came during an ongoing hearing into a bunch of PILs filed in the Top Court, seeking legal validation for same-sex marriage in India.

SC Calls Bilkis Bano Gang Rape, Horrendous Crime, Adjourns Hearing
The Supreme Court reviewed the plea challenging the pre-release of 11 convicts in the Bilkis Bano Gang Rape case. Duribg the court hearing, the SC bench led by Justice Joseph called the crime of murder and rape as horrendous and issued a notice, seeking the details about the trail proceedings and sentence, each convict served in Jail. With this, the Apex Court adjourned the matter to April 18.
