Opposition Leaders Meet President Kovind; Urge To Revoke Farm Laws
Opposition leaders including Rahul Gandhi, Sharad Pawar, Sitaram Yechury, T. K. S. Elangovan, D. Raja on December 9 have met President Ramnath Kovind amid farmers' protest. The leaders asked the President to take action against the central government by revoking the three farm laws. In the letter to the President signed by the five leaders, they have requested President Kovind to "persuade 'your government' not to be obdurate" and accept farmers' demand. Besides, the letter mentioned that the three laws had been enacted in an "anti-democratic" way, and it poses a threat to India's food security. Congress leader Rahul Gandhi addressed the media after meeting the President and informed that the bills are "an insult to the farmers of this country."
