Scientists Express Grief As Decades-Old Arecibo Radio Telescope Is Closed
The 1963 built, once world's largest radio telescope at Arecibo, Puerto Rico is on the brink of closure after the cables supporting a 900-tonne platform ripped apart. The US National Science Foundation (NSF), after analyzing the damage called for its permanent closure as the dangerous platform cannot be repaired. Since the news came out, the astronomical community have expressed their grief as the observatory did pioneering works and shaped many careers.
