Over 60.58 Cr Covid-19 Tests Conducted In India So Far: ICMR

According to the Indian Council of Medical Research, India has conducted more than 60.58 crore Covid-19 tests so far. Furthermore, Out of 60.58 crore, more than 12.84 lakh tests were done in the last 24 hours. As per Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, India recorded over 16,000 fresh covid-19 cases and 773 deaths on October 28. However, the active cases stand at a lowest since 243 days, at 1,60,989.

Turkey Records 25,528 Covid-19 Cases; Total Tally Surpasses 79 Lakh

According to the Health Ministry of Turkey, the country reported 25,528 fresh Coronavirus cases on October 28, taking its total number of cases to more than 7,961,000. Furthermore, the death tally reached 69,998,  while 27,651 people recovered in the last 24 hours. However, over 55.33 million individuals have been vaccinated with their first dose, while more than 48.5 million individuals have been vaccinated with their second.

Covishield's Dosage Interval Delays India's Vaccination Goals: Experts

AstraZeneca, also known as Covishield has a 12-16 week gap between doses, in contrast to the 8-12 week gap recommended by the World Health Organisation. Health experts are concerned that many people are "unlikely" to get their second dose by the end of 2021 as infections and deaths have fallen sharply in the past few months. "There is no scientific rationale for reducing the gap," said Chandrakant Lahariya, a physician.

2nd Billion Doses Likely To Be Administered In 3-4 Months: Vaccine Panel Chief

According to vaccine panel head Dr NK Arora, India took more than nine months to achieve the one billion milestone. However, the next one billion is expected to be achieved in three to four months. Reportedly, 30% of adults are fully vaccinated. "We think by the end of this year everybody will get at least one dose and there'll be few left for the second dose,'' said Dr. Arora.

Over 300 COVID Vaccines Under Development, Says WHO

Amidst the ongoing pandemic, pharmaceutical companies are developing over 300 vaccines. Japan To Donate More COVID-19 Vaccines To Southeast Asian Countires

To strengthen the fight against COVID-19, Japan on October 15 announced that it'll donate more free vaccines to Southeast Asian countries. However, Japan has already donated 25 million doses to the countries and will further donate an additional 4.9 million jabs. Reportedly, Indonesia and the Philippines will receive 2 million doses followed by 5,00,000 lakh doses to Vietnam, 4,00,000 to Thailand, and more AstraZeneca vaccines to Taiwan.

Government Has Big Plans To Celebrate 100 Crore Vaccination Mark: Health Minister

The government is planning to celebrate the extravaganza moment of reaching the 100 crore vaccination mark by making announcements at airports, seaports, railways, bus, and metro stations. The health minister stated that the target is expected to be accomplished by October 18 or 19. Bharat Biotech's Covaxin Is Yet To Receive EUL From WHO

Bharat Biotech had submitted an EOI (Expression of Interest) seeking emergency use listing (EUL) of Covaxin in April 2021. The World Health Organisation is still in the process of the vaccine assessment and is expected to roll out final results by October. Recently in conversation with the media, the company representative told that the company is closely working with WHO to obtain EUL at the earliest.

ICMR To Prioritize Children Above 12 For Vaccination

According to research reports, children aged 12 and above are at a higher risk of contracting coronavirus. The fourth round of the National Serosurvey in June 2021 concluded that children between the age group of 6 to 17 were seropositive and mostly had caught the virus. ICMR has suggested the medical practitioners and the government to prioritize children's above 12 for the vaccines first.
