India Imposes Highest Import Tax On E-Vehicles: Elon Musk

Tesla CEO Elon Musk has approached Indian authorities asking for a reduction in import tax before any launch of its electric vehicles in India. Musk took to Twitter and said, ''Import duties are the highest in the world." Reportedly, Musk is also looking for setting up a factory if gets respite in tax. However, India imposes a 60% tax on vehicles below $40,000 and 100% above the value.

Elon Musk Tweets About Possibility Of Tesla Factory In India

Tesla owner Elon Musk tweeted that he will probably open a factory in India if successful with imported vehicles. According to sources, Tesla had written to the ministry for reduced import duties on electric vehicles. "We are hopeful that there will be at least a temporary tariff relief for electric vehicles," Musk wrote. Others had previously have persuaded for reduced duties but were always met with resistance from the government.

Mercedes To Go Full Electric By End Of 2030

Daimler, Mercedes-Benz's parent company, has decided to enter the all-electric cars market by the end of 2030 by investing more than $47 billion by 2022. The company on July 22, said that along with its partner, it will build eight battery plants, ramping the EV production. The German luxury carmaker proposed an electric future by making all new vehicle platforms electric by 2025.

Tesla May Resume Accepting Bitcoin For Payment Soon, Says Elon Musk

Tesla’s owner Elon Musk announced on July 21 that the company may resume accepting Bitcoin payments once it inspects the amount of renewable energy used to mine the currency. "Most likely Tesla would resume accepting bitcoin," Musk said. Less than two months after it had started accepting bitcoin for car purchases, the electric carmaker paused in May after the method incurred some losses due to extended trading.

EVs Emits Less Greenhouse Gas Than Internal Combustion Vehicles

A new study shows that electric vehicles (EVs) are cleaner than internal combustion vehicles thus, releasing fewer greenhouse gas emissions. According to the study, in Europe, the lifetime emissions produced by EVs are between 66% and 69% lower than gas-powered vehicles, whereas in India, it ranges between 19% and 34% lower. Besides, recycling EV batteries can slowly bring down carbon footprints.

The technology of electromagnetically floating trains has been used in China before but for smaller inter-city lines. Many developed countries are looking to build Maglev trains as well but are faced with several issues such as incompatibility.

The J&K Government has imported a 30 seater luxury 'boat bus' to revive water transportation on the Jhelum river. The boat bus is on its trial stage between Lasjan and Chattbal Weir in Kashmir. Sukhnag Enterprises, a marine equipment supplier, has also commissioned a 10-12 seater luxury pontoon boat and a 14-seater rescue boat. Mac, a Newzealand based company is supplying the boat to the J&K.

Govt: Vehicles Older than 50 years To be Considered Vintage

The Indian government in its new notification on July 15 revealed that vehicles that are older than 50 years from the date of registration will be considered as vintage. Moreover, registration for the new vehicle will cost Rs 20,000 and will be valid for 10 years and re-registration will cost Rs 25,000, valid for 5 years. Besides, Vintage vehicles can also not be used for Comercial and regular purposes.
