Bengaluru Metro Resumes Services, Witnesses Low Footfall

Bengaluru metro resumed services amid the fear of Coronavirus on September 7, after months of shut-down. The metro operated on the purple line between 8 am to 11 am and 4.30 pm to 7.30 pm on the first day. However, it witnessed a low footfall, as many people are working from home and many companies have closed down temporarily. Students were absent, and there was fear of the pandemic among travelers. Speaking to Brifly, Kumar, a traveller said, " When compared to other public transport, I prefer Metro as it is more safe. The measures they have taken makes me feel safe". The stations were equipped with hand sanitizers and thermal scanners. Reportedly, only smart card users were allowed to travel. While many of them preferred the metro for its increased safety, many others also opted for its speed of commuting. The metro services in the city will be operational in both the lines between 7 am to 9 pm, from September 11.
