Kolkata On Alert Amid Cyclone, KMC Cancels Staff Leaves

The Kolkata Municipal Corporation (KMC) issued alerts for employees and disaster management teams amid the formation of cyclonic storm Asani.  The cyclone is likely to intensify further into a severe cyclone, said mayor Firhad Hakim on May 8. Furthermore, leaves of all the employees have been cancelled and were alerted to deal with the cyclone, likely on May 9,10.  The cyclone will bring heavy rainfall in the city.

Cyclone To Not Make Landfall In Odisha-Andhra: IMD

According to the India Meteorological Department, Cyclone would not make landfall in Odisha-Andhra, it will move parallel to coast. The Cyclone will move towards northwest Bay of Bengal after nearing Andhra-Odisha. IMD DG  Mrutyunjay Mohapatra said it will move towards northwest direction till May 10, sea coast condition near Odisha will become rough on May 9, 10. Wind-speed in the sea will increase to 80-90 kmph by May 10.

The Weather Officer Warned Odisha And Andhra Pradesh For Cyclone

The weather officer warned Odisha and Andhra Pradesh for Cyclone. IMD Director General Mrutunjay Mohapatra said it can reach the coast by May 10. Odisha SRC P K Jena said they have requisitioned 17 teams of NDRF, 20 teams of ODRAF and 175 teams of fire department, 10 more teams for emergency. IMB can give details of the cyclone after the formation of the depression on May 7.

IMD Asks Fishermen To Stay Away From Bay Of Bengal In View Of Cyclone Asani

The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has asked the Indian fishermen not to venture into the Bay of Bengal sea during March 19 to 22, in view of Cyclone Asani. The low-pressure area will turn into a cyclone storm on February 21, IMD added. Reportedly, Cyclone Asani will form in the Bay of Bengal sea and move towards Andaman & Nicobar Islands and eventually towards Bangladesh and north Myanmar.

Cyclone Asani To Form Over Southwest Bay Of Bengal: IMD

A cyclone by the name Asani, is expected to be formed in the southwest Bay of Bengal sea, due to low-pressure, by March 21, and head towards Bangladesh-Myanmar coasts on March 23. “For now, it does not seem like it will affect the Indian coast. Our models indicate Asani may cross Bangladesh or adjoining north Myanmar coasts,'' stated IMD. Notably, extreme temperatures will lead to climate extremities in coming years.

Tamil Nadu To Receive Heavy Rainfall From November 9-11: IMD

The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) on November 9 predicted very heavy rainfall at isolated places in Tamil Nadu. Reportedly, a low-pressure area formed under the influence of cyclonic circulation over the southeast Bay of Bengal. It'll reach Andhra Pradesh on November 11. Besides, IMD predicted extremely heavy rainfall in Puducherry, and Karaikal between November 9 to 11. Fishermen have also been advised not to go into the sea.

IMD Issues Alert For Heavy Rainfall In Gujarat, Bengal, Odisha

In the latest notification, the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has warned against very heavy to extremely heavy rainfall over several parts of Gujarat on September 29. As per the IMD's prediction, the depression over the northeast Arabian Sea could also turn into a cyclone like 'Gulab' but the new update will be announced later in the day. Besides, IMD also predicted heavy rainfall in West Bengal, Odisha, and Jharkhand.

Bay Of Bengal On Low Pressure; Cyclone Alert For Andhra Pradesh & Odisha

According to the Indian Meteorological Department, a cyclonic storm is likely to build up in the Bay of Bengal near the coastal regions of Andhra Pradesh and Odisha in the next 12 hours. A notification alerting the states has been released on September 25. Odisha, Andhra Pradesh, Chattisgarh, and the interiors of Telangana are predicted to witness heavy rainfall on September 25 and 26.
