₹2,000 Fine For Two-Wheeler Riders Unbuckled Helmet & Without ISI Mark

Two-wheeler riders who fail to wear their helmets correctly might face fines of up to ₹2,000. This includes infractions for wearing helmets with the strap undone or without a Bureau of Indian Standards certification or the ISI mark. According to Section 129 of Motor Vehicles Act of 1998, "every person driving or riding a motorcycle of any class or description, shall, while in a public place, wear protective headgear."

Delhi High Court Urge BIS To Monitor Manufacturing, Sale Of Helmets

Taking note of safety standards, the Delhi High Court on April 12 urged the Bureau of Indian Standards to oversee the selling and manufacturing of helmets. Reportedly, the plea filed by NGO 'Utprerit Consumer Foundation' failed to receive answers from BIS over its 1,400 complaints filed since 2019.
