Yamuna River Water Crosses Danger Mark, People Evacuated

The Delhi Disaster management authority evacuated people near the Yamuna River region, as the water level crosses the danger mark. On July 11, the river crossed the 206 watermark, amid heavy to very heavy rainfall which lashed the national capital in the past few days.  At least 41 people died in the past 48-hours. Moreover, the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) issued an orange alert and urged people to stay indoors.

Delhi Yamuna River Crosses Danger Mark, Evacuation Process Underway

Authorities in Delhi started evacuating people living in the low-lying areas near the Yamuna banks, as the water level in the river rose to 206.18 metres, much above the danger mark of 205.33 metres.  The concerned officials started the evacuation on September 27, amid the danger mark, the highest this year so far. East Delhi District Magistrate Anil Banka is conducting the evacuation process and alerted people.

Yamuna River Water Level Crosses Danger Mark, Delhi Authority Issues Alert

The concerned authority in Delhi issued an alert after the water level of the Yamuna river breached the danger mark of 205.33 metres. The major cause is due to the heavy rain in upper catchment areas, prompting authorities to chalk out a strategy to evacuate people from low-lying areas. Furthermore, the Delhi flood control room said the water level reached 205.38 metres. Rescue force and boats are on stand-by.
