Sri Lankan PM Ranil Wickremensinghe Takes Over As Acting President Of Sri Lanka

Sri Lankan PM Ranil Wickremesinghe took oath as the acting president of Sri Lanka, hours after the resignation of former President Gotabaya Rajapaksa. On July 15, the Chief Justice of Sri Lanka Jayantha Jayasuria administered the oath of office to Wickremesinghe, who will be working as an acting President, until election of the new president, likely on July 20. Meanwhile, Gotabaya who resigned is in Singapore, amid protests.

The Sri Lankan President Gotabaya Rajapaksa was humiliated, while he was travelling to Dubai. Notably, on July 12, the immigrant staff blocked his way, while he was boarding a flight to Dubai, escaping the tense protesting scenario of Sri Lanka, as thousands of protestors demanded his resignation, amid the worst economic crisis. Furthermore, Rajapaksa assured to resign from the post of President, and submit their resignation on July 13.

President Gotabaya Rajapaksa Will Resign On July 13 Amid Worst Economic Crisis

Sri Lanka Speaker Mahinda Yapa Abeywardena confirmed the whereabouts of President Gotabaya Rajapaksa and said, he has left the island and is in a nearby country. On July 11, he added that the President will be back by July 13. Meanwhile, Rajapaksa has officially conveyed to PM Ranil Wickremesinghe that he will resign on July 13 as previously announced. Notably, the resignation of Rajapaksa came amid worst economic-crisis in Sri-Lanka.

PM Modi Pledges President Gotabaya Rajapaksa Fertilisers Midst Sri Lanka Food Scarcity

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has pledged President Gotabaya Rajapaksa of fertilizer for the current crop season in the midst of catastrophic food scarcity as a result of Sri Lanka's greatest economic crisis. The Sri Lankan High Commission in India said India has committed to providing the Yala season with 65,000 MT of urea. Sri Lanka has received approximately $3 billion in aid from India to help with basic necessities.

The Sri Lankan government removed the state of emergency on May 21, approximately two weeks after it was implemented across the country in response to huge anti-government and economic riots. President Gotabaya Rajapaksa of Sri Lanka had announced a state of emergency on May 6. The decision was made in order to enhance the situation in terms of law and order.

Sri Lanka President Declares State Of Emergency With Effect From Midnight

As the protests in Sri Lanka continue unabated, Sri Lanka President Gotabaya Rajapaksa has declared a state of emergency, effective from the midnight of 7th May. This comes amid growing economic turmoil in the country. This marks the second time an emergency has been declared in the country in merely five weeks. A spokesman for the President shared that this move is just meant to ensure public order.

Sri Lankan President Rajapaksa Agrees To Replace Prime Minister

After a long protest of citizens, the Sri Lankan president Gotabaya Rajapaksa has finally agreed to replace the Sri Lankan PM Mahinda Rajapaksa, who is also his older brother. The decision was taken on April 29, in order to solve a political impasse caused by the country’s worst economic crisis, confirmed a lawmaker.  Furthermore, a national council will be appointed to name a new PM and Cabinet after a meeting.
