Russia Imposes Strict Action Against 'Fake News'; Cuts Access To BBC & Others
Russian parliament passed a law imposing a jail term for spreading intentionally "fake news" about the military, stepping up the information war over the conflict in Ukraine. "If the fakes led to serious consequences, it threatens imprisonment of up to 15 years," stated officials. Notably, Russia's communications watchdog also cut access to several foreign news organizations' websites, including the BBC and Deutsche Welle, for spreading false information about the war.
