Rare Rainforest Tree 'Pycnandra Acuminata' Secretes Poisonous Metal
A rare rainforest tree, called 'Pycnandra acuminata', secretes toxic metal nickel, whenever it is cut. Found on the New South Pacific's New Caledonia island, the tree consists poisonous metal which is secreted in form of blue-green latex. Potent of producing less pollution than conventional mining, the plant species are "threatened by deforestation", stated a Queensland University researcher. Meanwhile, scientists are studying the reasons behind this strange phenomenon.
