The World Health Organization (WHO) cautioned countries against Covid-19's new variant Omicron, stating that it will "change the course of pandemic." Tedros Adhanam Ghebreyesus, the WHO Chief, on December 8, asked to fasten vaccination process and said, "This virus is changing, our collective resolve must not." The WHO in a media brief said, although Omicron showed milder symptoms, it is too early to be definite about the new mutant.

Tamil Nadu CM MK Stalin paid a floral tribute on December 9, to Chief of Defense Staff (CDS) General Bipin Rawat and others who died in the chopper crash, at Madras Regimental Centre. Those who died in military helicopter crash were brought to Madras Regimental Centre on December 8 from Military Hospital. General Rawat, his wife and 11 others were travelling from Sulur to Wellington when the chopper crashed.
Tamil Nadu's Forensic Science Department, headed by Director Srinivasan's team reached the chopper crash site on December 9. CDS General Bipin Rawat, his wife and 11 others were killed on December 8, in an IAF Mi-17V5 chopper crash in Tamil Nadu. Earlier in the day, Air Chief Marshal VR Chaudhari reached the chopper crash site along with DGP C Sylendra Babu. An order has been given for the matter's inquiry.
Union Defence Minister Rajnath Singh addressed the Parliament over Tamil Nadu chopper crash incident, on December 9.
